Erasmus+ Youth Exchange Project „Keep Your Memory Alive”

YOUTH HIGHLIGHTED THE IMPORTANCE OF HEALTHY AGEING DURING WORLD HEALTH WEEK THROUGH THE ERASMUS+ PROGRAMME!

Within the scope of the Erasmus+ Youth Exchange Project „Keep Your Memory Alive„, supported by the Turkish National Agency, 36 young people from Greece, Romania, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Poland, and Türkiye came together in İzmir between April 8–16.

The main goal of the project was to raise awareness of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, while promoting a culture of healthy ageing in society. Throughout the project, participants engaged in a wide range of creative workshops and focused on the following key objectives:

Project Objectives:

  • Strengthening communication and cooperation between different generations,
  • Gaining a comparative understanding of the health systems and policies in the European Union,
  • Promoting access to healthcare services,
  • Contributing to the 2030 health-related goals,
  • Supporting efforts to reduce healthcare costs through preventive health services,
  • Enhancing the implementation of health policies in Türkiye and EU countries,
  • Supporting the personal development of young people through non-formal learning methods,
  • Contributing to Türkiye–EU relations on a local and regional level.

The participants visited the Healthy Ageing Center and the Alzheimer and Dementia Solidarity Center of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, where they spent time with elderly individuals and learned about the operational structure of these institutions. They also visited the Healthy Life Center under the Turkish Ministry of Health, where doctors provided detailed briefings about preventive and general health services in Türkiye. At the end of the project, participants created four short films based on what they had learned. These young people are now motivated to continue working on this issue in the long term.
