EUROPEAN YOUTH GATHERED IN DÜZCE-TÜRKİYE TO RAISE AWARENESS ABOUT THE INTEGRATION OF REFUGEES AND MIGRANTS!

The youth project titled “Open the Door to New Cultural Experiences”, supported within the scope of the Erasmus+ Programme, was held in Düzce, Türkiye, between 16–23 September. A total of 35 young people from Hungary, North Macedonia, Poland, Slovakia, and Türkiye came together to draw attention to the social integration of refugees and migrants.

Throughout the project, participants gained awareness on migration, refuge, and cultural diversity through non-formal learning-based workshops, cultural activities, and field visits. The program aimed to strengthen participants’ empathy, active citizenship, and volunteering skills.

Other objectives of the project include:

  • Promoting understanding of the challenges faced by migrants, refugees, and minorities,
  • Combating racism and discrimination,
  • Drawing attention to the living conditions of seasonal agricultural workers,
  • Developing young people’s social responsibility, language, and career skills,
  • Increasing participation in the Erasmus+ Programme and encouraging volunteering.

As part of the activities, participants visited Piri Reis Vocational and Technical High School with the support of Akçakoca Municipality, where they organized interactive activities with students on multiculturalism, tolerance, and integration. Akçakoca District Governor Deniz Pişkin also attended the event.

During the project, the young participants also received training from experts of the Düzce Provincial Directorate of Migration Management, focusing on the current situation of migrants and refugees in Türkiye and related policies. The project enabled participants to return to their countries with enriched knowledge and valuable cultural experiences.
